HOW TO IMPROVE READING
                                                      Eye Problems and Reading

There are several eye problems connected with Reading.  One is conjunctivitis, which is pink eye is common. Several factors can cause it like allergies, dust, bacteria, and viruses.   Another is that diabetes is the leading cause of blindness.  Children, too, get diabetes and their eyes my be affected.  A few others listed were watery eyes, dry eyes, myopia (nearsightedness), floaters, flashers and retinal tears.  Floaters usually occur in older people in their 60's, not in children.
Glaucoma is a type of pressure in the eye with too much fluid.  Eventually it can cause blindness.  It usually occurs in older people and is often inherited.
Some people are opting for lasik sugery, but the article suggested that one be careful when deciding on this surgery.  It is not for everyone.  Researching it out and choosing the best plan is better than getting lasik surgery.
Then, too, there are injuries to the eye.  Some injuries can be prevented and eyes can be saved whereas others are permanent.  Children need to learn that our eyes are very delicate and we need to care for them.  They are an important organ in our bodies that need to be taken care of so we can see, read and have them for a long time.  They need to be cautioned not to put objects or sharp objects in their eyes.  Eye care is important.
Still another problem is alignment of the eyes.  It is said that Botox will help correct this problem.
All these factors affect eyes and sometimes make it difficult for children to read.  They may have to have therapy, glasses or other things to help them in reading.
If the optic nerve is damaged, blindness or partial sight can occur, but other problems can be helped with therapy or other eye helps like contact lenses, magnifiers, and glasses.
Retinal detachment occurs when the retina pulls away from the supporting tissue of the eye.  A friend of ours had this and was able to get it reattached or somehow new eyes.  Now she can  see quite well.  A daughter of a friend had this happen and she has had quite a time.  I am not sure hers worked as well as the other friend's had.
